Putting Prisons into focus

Putting the work of Prison Fellowship on the map across the Diocese of Guildford was at the top of the agenda of Prison Fellowship Chief Executive Natalie Cronin when she addressed a meeting of the Guilford Diocesan Synod on Saturday 19th June.

“We are currently reaching out to churches across the country and looking for people to become supporters and volunteers to help our work in key areas such as restorative justice and reducing the level of reoffending,” said Ms Cronin today.

She told the gathered bishops, priests and laity: “It’s a question of putting this vital ministry in prisons into focus.”

Prison Fellowship volunteers help and support the successful Sycamore Tree programme which attempts to help offenders come to terms with the consequences of their crime – not only on their own life but on all of those affected and also Angel Tree, a scheme which enables children of prisoners to receive a Christmas gift.

Supporters and volunteers pray for prisons, offer financial support for its work, write letters to inmates as well as taking part in Sycamore Tree and Angel Tree programmes within prisons.

Prison Fellowship England and Wales works with inmates and prison staff right across the country and seeks to change lives through its work.
