Prison Fellowship England and Wales is giving its full backing to this year’s National Volunteers’ Week

(1 – 7 June) (www.volunteersweek.org.uk)

Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which celebrates the fantastic contribution that volunteers make across the UK.

The Week plays a huge part in raising the profile of the hundreds of thousands of volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while inspiring others to get involved too.

Volunteers are vital to the work of Prison Fellowship in England and Wales by working with inmates and prison chaplains right across the country. Their aim, quite simply, is to change people’s lives.

They are involved in prayer groups, Sycamore Tree (a restorative justice and victim awareness programme) and Angel Tree (a scheme which enables children of prisoners to receive a Christmas gift).

Volunteer numbers have been rising and the charity is hoping to attract more people to help.

Chief Executive, Natalie Cronin, said today: “We desperately need more volunteers to continue our vital work. At the moment we can only reach a fraction of prisoners, with your help we could reach many more and make a real difference in our prisons and communities.”
